On Sunday, December 20, an earthquake struck Malawi's northern Karonga district, leaving three dead, at least two hundred injured, and many thousands without shelter.  The quake, which measured 6.0 on the Richter scale, was the latest in a series dating back to the first week of December.  At least 3,000 people were already homeless prior to the December 20 quake.

Ottawa, December 22, 2009 - The Canadian Co-operative Association is stepping forward with immediate assistance of $20,000 to help people affected by recent earthquakes in Malawi, and will consider further assistance once more information is available.
