There is a common misconception in some parts of Canada that credit unions are all small, or only in rural communities or reserved for employee groups and special interest groups.
Nothing could be further from fact.
Credit unions in Canada come in all shapes and sizes, and in almost every community you'll find one very open to you. In British Columbia, for example, credit unions are the first choice of a significant percentage of the population. The same holds true in other regions, and growth coast-to-coast is strong.
Why? Because credit unions are operated democratically and owned by their customers as members. Because we believe in the mix of personal service and technology like ATMs and on-line services, blended to give our members a choice of how they are served. Because everyone deserves the highest level of service regardless of where you come from or where you are in life.
One in three Canadians are members of credit unions and caisse populaires. They are young families and empty nesters, people with chequing accounts and mortgages, and people with retirement investments. They are trades-people and professionals, wheat producers and grocery store owners.
We are becoming Canada's first choice in building financial well-being because we are the choice best suited to the lives Canadians want to live.
After hearing from Canadian Central on the issue, Canada Border Services Agency has agreed to accept customs bonds issued by credit unions. | |
