IYC2012

March is Fraud Prevention Month

Canadian Central is again working with the Fraud Prevention Forum to get the message out that people need to protect themselves from becoming a victim of fraud.
Throughout March 2007 there will be a number of events and activities across the country designed to raise public awareness on this issue.
Chaired by the Competition Bureau, this Forum is a group of private firms, financial institutions, consumer and volunteer groups, government agencies and law enforcement organizations that are committed to fighting fraud.
The key message of the campaign is “Recognize it, Report it and Stop it” supported by information that will teach people how to protect themselves, their families and friends. This year’s effort builds on the success of 2006, when the forum distributed more than 75 million pieces of fraud awareness materials including bill inserts, brochures and posters.
The 2007 campaign is expanding its reach by targeting a greater range of media and working with new partners. There are now more than 80 members of the forum.
The material urges anyone who is contacted by a scam artist or who is defrauded to contact Phonebusters, “The Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre” at 1-888-495-8501 or go to its Web site, www.phonebusters.com.
Canadian Central’s marketing department has once again made the Member Scam Protection e-booklet available, which provides important tips about how to prevent fraud and identity theft. For more information, contact Dorothy Vernon Brown.
New creative material from the Fraud Prevention Forum includes a web banner, bookmark, brochure and posters. Credit unions wishing to use these materials must make their own print arrangements. Print-ready, high quality versions can be obtained by contacting the FPF’s  Gaétan Hébert,  Hebert.gatean@cb-bc.gc.ca Please follow the FPF’s styleguide when using materials or logos.
