Fraud: Recognize It. Report It. Stop It.
February 7, 2008
Police forces, financial institutions, business groups and associations are working together during March to promote Fraud Prevention Month.
Canadian Central represents the credit union system in the national Fraud Prevention Forum, a group of private firms, consumer and volunteer groups, government agencies and law enforcement organizations that are committed to fighting fraud aimed at consumers and businesses.
Through its partners, the Forum, which is chaired by the Competition Bureau, works to prevent Canadians from becoming victims of fraud by educating them on how to recognize it, report it and stop it.
This year’s campaign will touch on three key themes –
• Fraud targeting youth
• Health related fraud
• Fraud targeting small businesses and charities
The Forum will be holding events across the country to highlight these themes and tracking events by Forum partners. If your credit union is holding a fraud prevention event during March inform Canadian Central’s media relations manager Art Chamberlain, chamberlaina@cucentral.com, and he will ensure it is listed on a national events calendar complied by the Competition Bureau.
The forum has prepared brochures, posters and bookmarks, which can be downloaded in PDF format from Canadian Central’s website. If you like you can obtain a high quality version of all the materials for printing by contacting Gaétan Hébert (hebert.gaetan@cb-bc.gc.ca)
After hearing from Canadian Central on the issue, Canada Border Services Agency has agreed to accept customs bonds issued by credit unions. | |
