CALGARY -- Bobby McVeigh received a Distinguished Service Award from the World Council of Credit Unions during the World Credit Union Conference in Calgary.
The award recognized McVeigh’s more than 30 years of service as a volunteer director at every level of the credit union system -- credit union, provincial central, Canadian Central and WOCCU.
McVeigh is currently a director of Credit Union Central of Canada and of WOCCU and is a member of the United Nations Advisors Group on Inclusive Financial Sectors..
The award honoured his international efforts in Poland, Romania, Asia and Africa.
“It is only by engaging people that we can change the world,” McVeigh said in his acceptance speech. “I believe it is about people helping people.”

WYCUP WINNER

Ryan Visscher of Envision Financial in Langley, B.C., was one of five winners of WOCCU's World Young Credit Union People awards. The only Canadian winner, Visscher received an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2008 World Credit Union Conference in Hong Kong.
