Jim Scopick, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Central has announced his intention to retire effective December 31.
Scopick joined Alberta Central in 1985 as chief financial officer and became Central's CEO in 1987.
Alberta Central's chair Penny Reeves said Scopick has always had a clear focus and vision for Central and the credit union system. He envisioned Alberta Central playing an active role in facilitating growth for credit unions, reducing Central's net costs to the system, and diversifying business in areas of core competency to generate outside sources of revenue.
For the system, he has actively encouraged credit unions to increase small and medium-sized business lending as a means to improving income and attracting new members.
These initiatives have proven successful; Alberta Central is currently experiencing record growth in assets and earnings.
Scopick has served on the Booard of Credit Union Central of Canada and the National CEO Committee. He has chaired several national committees and served on the Boards and management committees of Ethical Funds and Credential, CUETS, CUPS, and Celero.
