WOCCU seeks award nominations

January 10, 2008

World Council of Credit Unions is seeking nominations for its Distinguished Service Award and the WOCCU Young Credit Union People (WYCUP) Scholarship Program.

The Distinguished Service Award is presented to honour contributions to the global credit union movement. The award is presented to individuals and institutions that have offered exemplary service to the credit union movement.

The Distinguished Service Award is not given every year, its presentation governed by the viability and worthiness of candidates in the eyes of the judges. All presentations are made at WOCCU's World Credit Union Conference, this year scheduled for July 13-16 in Hong Kong.

In the case of individuals, recipients may be WOCCU and member organization officers, directors or representative; international credit union pioneers; field technicians with a long and outstanding service record; or persons whose actions have benefitted global credit union development. No more than three individual awards may be presented in a single year.

Institutional recipients may be organizations or agencies that have provided financial and technical assistance to develop international credit union movements and their service infrastructures over an extended period of time. No more than one institutional award may be granted each year.

Nominations must be made by a WOCCU member organization and are due May 1, 2008. For more information on the award and a nomination form, visit the WOCCU Web site at www.woccu.org/involved/recognition.

The WYCUP Scholarship Program seeks individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of their own credit unions, regional or national credit union systems and have demonstrated the potential to employ their unique talents at the international level.

Credit unions and credit union organizations that are WOCCU members are encouraged to nominate their next generation of credit union leaders to compete for the WYCUP Scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarship, nominees must: 1) be sponsored by their credit union or credit union organization to attend WOCCU's 2008 World Credit Union Conference in Hong Kong in July; 2) be 35 years of age or younger and January 1, 2008; and 3) submit a completed nomination form with all the necessary supporting materials to WOCCU no later than June 2, 2008.

The WOCCU Scholarship, which consists of an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2009 World Credit Union Conference, will be awarded to five recipients at 2008 Hong Kong conference. The top two winners, as determined by the judges, will have the opportunity to visit a WOCCU project as part of the Cooperative Learning Tour development program.

All WYCUP nominees will be formally recognized in Hong Kong and invited to take part in events organized specifically for participants under age 35, including a networking session.
