Credit Union Central of Canada is the national trade association and finance facility of all member credit unions and caisses populaires from coast to coast. We are the national voice, the national services provider and the facilitator of the national cooperative movement.
Incorporated by a Special Act of Parliament in 1953, and regulated under the Cooperative Credit Associations Act, Canadian Central was first established to provide liquidity for the Canadian system. This remains core to our purpose today.
In 1977, we assumed increased development responsibilities to help credit unions achieve competitive advantages in services improvements, training and knowledge sharing. To this day, along with eight provincial Centrals and one federation of caisses populaires, who comprise our primary shareholder group, developing opportunities for cooperative growth with the sole purpose of serving every Canadian better, is the foundation of our purpose.
After hearing from Canadian Central on the issue, Canada Border Services Agency has agreed to accept customs bonds issued by credit unions. | |
